Natural vs Synthetic Toothbrush

Jun 14, 2017   //   by Emery & Emery Team   //   News  //  No Comments

toothbrushBoth synthetic and natural toothbrush bristle types are available today although synthetics are much more common. Nylon and polyester are the main synthetic materials used for toothbrush bristles. Before synthetics became the norm for toothbrush bristles, boar and horse hair bristle types only were used. A natural bristle brush is more porous and will tend to collect moisture, odors and bacteria quicker than a synthetic bristle brush.

Melanie’s Visit to Paris 2017

May 23, 2017   //   by Emery & Emery Team   //   News  //  No Comments

Ah, Paris! I have wanted to go there since studying French for 4 years in high school. I am happy to say my husband and I travelled to Paris in April and it did not disappoint. We stayed in a quaint little hotel in the Latin Quarter close to Notre Dame Cathedral. We were so in awe of Notre Dame’s architecture and beautiful stained glass, that we went by it every day. We went to the Louvre, trekked up the steps from Montmartre to Sacre Coeur, and toured Versailles and it’s amazing gardens. One of our favorite activities was taking a cooking class with a French Chef in his home. He took us to the local farmer’s market to find what was “fresh and good” to cook that day. We made a simple, but elegant meal that was delicious. My husband wasn’t thrilled when I booked the class, but ended up enjoying it very much. We took time to just walk up and down both the right and left banks, stopping wherever we pleased. We ended up walking 13.5 miles one day and then my husband decided it was time to learn the Metro routes. Paris was all that we hoped it would be and we can’t wait to go back and see the rest of France.

What We Love About Our Career – Happy Smiles

May 17, 2017   //   by Emery & Emery Team   //   News  //  No Comments

This is what we love about our career! Five years ago, the lovely young lady on the left came to us to restore her smile. She was a wonderful patient throughout the process and was very happy with the result. Recently she referred in one of her best friends, the lovely young lady on the right who also needed much dentistry. We recently completed restoring her smile and she is thrilled. She told us it has boosted her confidence and completely changed her life. For the first time, she can smile in photographs. They are both beautiful inside and out and we are fortunate to have been able to help them with their dental needs.

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month

Apr 3, 2017   //   by Emery & Emery Team   //   News  //  No Comments

Happy ToothClose to 49,750 Americans will be diagnosed with oral oropharyngeal cancer this year. It will cause over 9,750 deaths, killing roughly 1 person per hour, 24 hours per day. Of those 49,750 newly diagnosed individuals, only slightly more than half will be alive in 5 years. Oral cancer is particularly dangerous because in its early stages it may not be noticed by the patient, as it can frequently prosper without producing pain or symptoms they might readily recognize, and because it has a high risk of producing second, primary tumors. At our office during your hygiene appointment an oral cancer exam is performed routinely by Drs. Alyson and Dr. Doug. If we discover anything that is abnormal we perform a very simple brush biopsy test in our office.  When those results are received, if there is anything abnormal we then refer you to an oral surgeon for a traditional biopsy. Not only is it important for you to routinely see us for your dental health, but this oral cancer screening could help save your life. Please feel free to come in for a screening at any time if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: sores, swelling, lumps, red or white patches, numbness, pain, tenderness, trouble chewing, trouble swallowing, trouble speaking, lingering sore throat, lingering hoarseness, or anything that is a concern to yours.
