The temporomandibular joint or TMJ is the joint that connects your jawbone to your skull. Just like other joints in our body, dysfunction of this joint can lead to pain and discomfort. Some of the symptoms of TMJ dysfunction or syndrome are jaw pain, difficulty chewing, limited opening, clicking and locking. The most common and successful treatment is to have a custom night guard made. This positions your jaw and muscles in a more relaxed position and will most likely alleviate some or all of your symptoms.
People who suffer from TMJ are very happy to get some relief after they begin wearing a night guard. If you have any of these symptoms please ask Drs. Emery about what can be done.
