Many patients come in complaining of mouth sores. Some common causes of these can be irritation, hormonal changes, and infection. Things that irritate the mouth can be a sharp or broken tooth, braces or retainers, hot foods and drinks or tobacco products. Certain medications, highly acidic foods, stress and vitamin deficiencies can also cause mouth sores. Many medical conditions have mouth sores as a side effect.
