Possible Connection between Oral Hygiene and Severity of COVID-19

Recent research suggests there may be a connection between SARS-CoV-2 infections and the microbial load in the oral cavity. It has been found that the bacteria present in patients with severe COVID-19 are bacteria that is associated with the oral cavity; therefore, improved oral hygiene may play a part in reducing the risk of complications. It has also been found that persons suffering with pneumonia symptoms have improved after their routine dental cleaning. Bacteria present in the mouth can be aspirated into the lungs; therefore, we want to minimize the bacteria load found in the oral cavity at all times.

During these times we strongly recommend you maintain good dental homecare and continue with your regular dental cleanings. Our office has been back to work now for a little over 2 months and we are very proud of how we are handling all of the new protocols to make sure our patients are entering a safe environment for dental care. If you ever have any questions please feel free to call our office and we will be happy to answer them for you.
